Backing

“No two horses are identical to back, I never stop learning or thinking about how to improve the process from the horses perspective” Rupert Humphreys

Rupert will spend an average of 6 weeks to take a horse from virtually unhandled to accepting a person on its back. This is done through an intuitive individual process of one-to-one lunging, getting on and eventually riding.

It is the one-to-one element that is so unique to Rupert as he must build and develop trust in each and every horse he works with until it reaches a point without fear or worry and allows the process to continue.

Schooling

After backing the ridden work and training begins, it is at this point that Rupert will gently and sensitively take the horse out of its comfort zone to broaden its experiences and thus confidence without heightening anxiety levels. As the horses’ confidence grows with the world around it, then more experiences will be added and new lessons learned.
Eventually you end up with a horse that is happy and mentally balanced enough to accept leadership with kindness. This allows the horse to develop its muscles and fitness to improve health wellbeing and long term rideability.
